  • Obtain a Personal Education Number (PEN) for each student
  • Carry out institutional responsibilities related to operating programs or activities
  • Prepare and submit budgets, financial statements, reports and other information necessary to carry out the Minister’s responsibilities to institutions
  • Conduct institutional research and statistical analysis

NSF (Non-Sufficient Funds) Cheques

Fees are payable when you register. A $38 fee will be charged for NSF cheques.

Refunds and Cancellations

Course fees are refundable if you withdraw a minimum of 7 days prior to the start date of the course. Please note that special refund deadlines are stated for some courses, and we are unable to issue refunds after those deadlines. Some courses may also include non-refundable tuition, application and/or lab fees. If this is the case, information will appear in the intake details available on the Course Schedule.

A full refund is issued in the case of course cancellation by VIU. Courses may be cancelled due to low enrolment, or changed for various reasons. Every effort is made to notify students with as much notice as possible. Please ensure that you provide accurate and up-to-date contact information so that we can keep you informed.

Are You On a Wait List?

Register early to secure your seat. If you see the "Waiting" comment on your Registration Statement, this means that a course is full and you have been “Wait Listed”. No payment is required to go on the “Wait List”. If a seat becomes available in this current semester, you will be contacted to process your registration and payment.

Check Your Registration Statement

Please read your Registration Statement receipt carefully. It confirms your registration and contains details of class times and location. Please note your 9-digit Student Number in the upper left-hand corner, and quote this Student Number when registering for future courses. Your Student Number allows us to correctly identify you and to ensure that your Student Record is complete.

Student Record Information

You can access your VIU Student Record to check your registration status and find your class location (click on Course Schedule). You will need your 9-digit Student Number and your Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you need assistance, please call our office. Your student record also contains information regarding potential income tax deductions per Revenue Canada regulations.
