The BA Double Minor in Geography and Earth Science program provides an opportunity for those students interested in Geography and Earth Science, but who do not wish to do the BSc Major in Geoscience. This program provides a comprehensive understanding of the geosciences, but without mathematics and other requirements of a BSc.  (Note, it is still possible for student to complete a BSc Double Minor in Geography and Earth Science, but they would be advised to complete the BSc Major in Geoscience).

The BA Double Minor in Geography and Earth Science has been developed for those who have a strong interest in the geosciences, but are less concerned about becoming a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo). The BA Double Minor allows students significant freedom in their selection of upper level courses and fields of interest (e.g., surface environments, water or deep earth). Course selection advice should be sought from the Chair of either the Geography or Earth Science Departments.

Students with the BA Double Minor in Geography and Earth Science can be readily employed be in government planning, the mining exploration and environmental industry, but will be unable to sign off on projects requiring a P.Geo. designation.  This program is also well suited for those who wish to become educators or researchers

Students completing the BA Double Minor Degree in Geography and Earth Science are required to satisfy the institutional requirements for a BA Degree at VIU,  in addition to those of the Minor in Earth Science and the BA Minor in Geography.
