FISH 241 (3) Fish Health

An investigation of fish pathology. Topics include the prevention, identification, and treatment of the principal fish diseases in cultured salmonids; and the impact of disease, parasites, and toxic substances on wild fish populations.

This course provides an introduction to several principal diseases of cultured aquatic species (primarily fish). Students will gain an understanding and appreciation for the diagnosis, pathology and treatment of major aquatic diseases. Disease-causing viruses, bacteria, fungi & parasites (protozoan & metazoan) as well as non-infectious diseases and legislative implications will be examined. The laboratory component will address various diagnostic and applied techniques essential to studies in fish husbandry and health.
