What We Do

Earth Scientists, or geologists, are a varied bunch and we have our hands in pretty much anything that has to do with Earth and its environment.  Because as Charles Lyell summarized," the present is the key to the past", we study present day earth conditions to help us learn how things may have occurred on ancient Earth. We study the flow of water through watersheds and aquifers.  We study the climate and environment and the interactions between all of Earth's systems.  We study the oceans and the creatures within them.  We study rocks and minerals to learn about how and where they formed.  Geologists are an integral part to many industries and thus our job descriptions are diverse.
