Engineering Makerspace

The VIU Engineering makerspace is a workspace where faculty and students can learn to use prototyping and manufacturing tools. You can use the makerspace for class projects, research or group training. You’ll gain hands-on experience with the latest technologies and develop practical skills that complement your academic studies.

The makerspace is an inclusive space where collaboration, creativity and innovation can thrive. You don’t need prior knowledge or experience in design, construction or manufacturing. Faculty experts will provide a safe and accessible introduction to all the tools and processes available in the workspace.

How to use the makerspace

Student users

You can take part in regularly scheduled

  • workshops
  • training sessions
  • project cycles

A project cycle will include design, fabrication and finishing of a project in four scheduled sessions.

Faculty users

Faculty may request shop time for course delivery and research on a cost-recovery basis.
