This scholarship is provided by VIU Biology Department alumna, Tanya Griffiths. Tanya completed her Bachelor of Science in (Biology) degree in 2000. Upon graduation, she was accepted into a PhD program in the Biochemistry Department at UBC and finished her degree in 2006. She started an MD degree at UBC in 2008. She completed her MD in 2012 and started a residency in anesthesiology at Queen’s University. Tanya wished to ‘give back’ to her alma mater and provide a scholarship for a recent VIU biology graduate. This $500 annual scholarship will be awarded to a graduate in their final year of their Bachelor of Science in Biology who has been recently accepted into a doctoral program in the health, medical, or veterinary sciences. VIU biology graduates who have been accepted into a doctoral degree program will be nominated by a Biology Department faculty member. The award is given to a student in recognition of outstanding academic and leadership excellence and potential for excelling in their doctorate studies.
