This endowment remembers and honours a terrific colleague and steadfast friend, an inspirational mentor and role model for many students, and an outstanding research scientist – Dr. David Gaumont-Guay. David was a professor in the Biology Department from 2007 to 2016. For the last eight of these years, David fought a courageous battle with leukemia; he passed away on April 16, 2016. The Dr. David Gaumont-Guay Endowment fund supports a $1,000 annual scholarship for a graduating VIU Bachelor of Science student in Biology who shows outstanding academic achievement in all three of David’s teaching and research passions: ecology, botany, and independent scientific research. The successful student will also exemplify David’s love of adventure and the outdoors, as well as his curiosity and enthusiasm for the ecological and botanical sciences.
