Dr Andy Spencer was Director of the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC) for 11 years (1993-2004), and then Research Advisor at Vancouver Island University (2005-2010). His leadership and vision contributed immensely to the diverse teaching and research activities at BMSC; he was especially proud of the summer course program, and the marvelous opportunities these courses provided undergraduate students to learn in such a spectacular setting. This $500 award recognizes Dr. Spencer’s enduring legacy at Bamfield, and at VIU. VIU Biology students who have completed the 2nd year of their BSc degree, and who have been accepted into a BMSC summer course are encouraged to apply. The successful student exemplifies Andy’s standards for excellence, and his curiosity and enthusiasm for science.
